INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

The Editors invite original contributions within the scope of our Journal. English is the official language of the Journal. All communications and contributions shall be made in English only.

Ethics & Disclosures

The journal is committed to maintaining the highest level of integrity in the content published after peer reviewing. The Editorial Committee with the help of experienced reviewers evaluates the contributions and selects articles for publication. However, the author holds the full copyright of their Articles the JMBS holds the right to disseminate the same. So, authors are sole responsible for the contents in their contributions. Authors are requested to take all necessary permissions and to follow appropriate ethical formalities. The Journal assumes no responsibility for the statements and opinions advanced by the contributors.

Open access

The articles in JMBS will be made available for Open Access in website. We don’t charge for publication costs. It is a not for profit journal with the whole aim of keeping good standards and scientific integrity.

Publication Ethics

JMBS is committed to uphold highest integrity in scientific communication. Authors are requested to help us in maintaining the trust, scientific integrity, publication ethics and professional approach of JMBS. The journal may use software to screen for plagiarism. Authors are expected to be sincere in furnishing the concepts, information, citations and the data without evincing conflicts in future.

Cover Photographs

Editors welcome original photographs suitable for the cover of JMBS from Authors. It is preferable, but not essential, that these be related to submitted papers.

Types of Papers

We publish Review Articles, Original Research Articles, Research Communications, Opinions, Book Review/Events Overview and Letters to Editors.

Manuscript Submission

Submission of a manuscript implies that 1. The work described or information provided has not been published before 2. It is not under consideration for publication anywhere else 3. Its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities at the institute where the work has been carried out. 4. All the illustrations, tables, photographs and other information in whatsoever form is the original contribution of the Authors or if reproduced necessary permission in writing has been obtained and submitted to the JMBS. JMBS holds no responsibility on the above or similar needs and it is the sole discretion of Authors especially corresponding author.

Permissions

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

Submission of Articles

Authors should submit their manuscripts as Soft Copy to the E mail of the Managing Editor (jayaprakashvel.m@ametuniv.ac.in). However, articles may also be submitted in other formats such as soft copy in intact CD/DVD/Pen drive to the Editor In Chief’s postal address. Online submission will be enabled shortly.

Article Formats

Based on the type of articles the formats shall be customized. For full length research articles, Title page, Abstract and keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussions, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, References, Tables, Figures and Illustrations. In case of Review Articles, articles shall be limited to 30 pages in MS Word format with not more than 100 references. The review articles shall consist of Title page, Abstract and keywords, Introduction, Subtopics, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, References, Tables, Figures and Illustrations. Research Communications, Opinions, Book Review/Events Overview and Letters to Editors shall be prepared and submitted by authors in their own way and the same will be dealt by the Editors from case to case.

Title Page

The title page shall include the name(s) of the author(s), a concise and informative title, the affiliation(s) and address(es) of the author(s), the e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the corresponding author.

Abstract

Abstracts shall be prepared in not more than 250 words. The abstract shall define all abbreviations and not contain any unspecified references.

Keywords

Authors shall provide 4 to 6 keywords exemplifying the concept of the paper which can be used for indexing purposes.

Text Formatting

Authors are advised to prepare their manuscripts in MS Word (2007 or later versions) format Times New Roman font style in 12 size and 1.5 line spacing. Italics, highlighting or bold letters shall be used appropriately. SI units shall be followed throughout the text. Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages. Do not use field functions. Use tab stops or other commands for indents, not the space bar. Use the table function, not spreadsheets, to make tables. Please use not more than three levels of headings. Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter. Footnotes can be used to give additional information appropriately and in a manner not affecting the flow of reading.

Acknowledgments

Acknowledgments of people, grants, funds, etc. should be placed in a separate section before the reference list. The names of funding organizations should be written in full.

Citation

Cite references in the text by name and year in parentheses. For example

• Bacteria able to emit light are common in the marine environment (Baumann and Baumann, 1980).

• Besides these toxins, zoanthids are reported to contain bioactive compound, norzoanthamine, which has promising anti-osteoporotic and anti-leukemic properties (Miyashita et al., 2004).

• Luminescent bacteria occur in the intestinal tracts of marine animals (Ruby and Morin, 1978; O'Brien and Sizemore, 1979) and may be associated with luminous fecal pellets (Raymond and De Vries, 1976).

List of References

The list of references shall exclusively include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communications and unpublished works should only be mentioned in the text. Reference list entries should be alphabetized by the last names of the first author of each work. Always use the standard names of a journal according to the ISSN List and avoid abbreviating journal names.

Tables

Numbering the tables and numbers in the tables should be made using Arabic numerals. Kindly follow consecutive numerical order to cite the tables in the text. Tables must accompany a descriptive title and if previously published information used, appropriate references should be cited. Authors may use foot notes for describing statistical significance or special mention by indicating asterisks which shall also be included in the end of table in lowercase.

Figures/Artworks or Illustrations

All the figures or such materials should be original. Evidence to be produced for permission in writing to use the images/artworks/illustrations or similar material of others or published ones. All images/artworks/illustrations or similar material shall be produced in JPEG format with reasonable good reproducing capacity (not less than 600 dpi. 1200 dpi is preferred for images and 600 dpi for graphs and other illustration). Provide figure captions with appropriate number in serial order as per citation in the text. Legends given along with figures or inside the images such as units etc must be legible and preferably authors may use Arial Font for this purpose. Each figure must be given in separate pages along with titles and legends. Provide figures as the last item in the manuscript.

Guidelines for Review Articles

Review articles about 10 pages in print (approximately 7000 words, exclusive of references) on emerging aspects of Marine Biosciences are invited. Review articles must be based on published information along with some of the author’s original or unpublished information. The review articles also must address the subjects within the scope of the Journal. Before preparing review articles, authors are preferably requested to contact Editor in Chief along with proposed title with subunits.

Guidelines for Other type of articles

Book Reviews

Book reviews, either invited by the Editor or proposed by the Author shall not exceed one page in print including references. Scope of the Journal also applies here.

Opinions

Since the field of Marine Biosciences is gaining industrial and academic importance in recent years, many new avenues are opening up. Several specialized fields are getting developed. Distinguished scholars are invited to present their scientific perspective on the recent happenings in the field. Opinions may or may not contain references. It shall be limited to one page in print.

Letters to Editors

Scientific professionals in Marine Bioscience field are invited to record their perspectives with special reference to the articles published in JMBS.
